Week 6 – Sunday Thoughts

Looking Back

Time to look back at the week that was, and then ahead to next weeks match-up.  I like to do this on Sunday just in case I still have add/drops available.  Using an add/drop effectively on Sunday can keep your options open in the following week.

Generally, I begin this process by comparing my stats for the current week with who ever I am facing in the following week.  This allows me to determine if there were any specific stat categories that I may need to beef up against my next opponent.

Team                  G            A            +/-         PPP       SOG       Hits       W          GAA              SV%                SCORE

Josi my Burns?  10           17              -6             11            107           31           1              2.56               .896                        6

Jero’s Team        8             13              0              7              82            36           2             2.65               .927                        3

Things are looking OK for me going into Monday, goalies are always tough to predict.  I am currently carrying 3 goalies on this roster, I drafted Talbot and Smith, and have since picked up Rittich.  A decent combination most weeks.

Even though I won’t be making any moves myself, I’ll still highlight a few add drop targets.

HOT or NOT

HOT – Blake Coleman, C/LW        Pre-Season Rank 337

Past 7 Days Rank 9

Blake had 3G and 2A, was +4 with 14 SOG and 9 Hits, and is currently only 10% owned across Yahoo Fantasy Leagues. He is only playing on the third line in NJ currently, but if he keeps this play up he could find himself in the top 6 sooner than later.

NOT – Johnny Gaudreau, LW       Pre-Season Rank 24

Past 7 Days Rank 309

Johnny only managed 1A, and 10 SOG the past 7 days.  He is 99% owned, and I am not suggesting you drop him by any means.  But if these struggles continue, he could be someone you could use as trade bait to round out your team.  For now, sit tight, especially if you are in a keeper league as he is a great young talent.

FORWARD THINKING

If you are thinking about making a roster change prior to Monday, I would avoid players on the Wild as they are the only team with only 2 games next week.  There are a handful of 4 game teams to choose from.

Kevin Hayes, C – 11% owned

Hayes is centering the second line for the Rangers, in addition to seeing 2nd PP time.  He has 1G and 7A over the past 14 days with one of those being a PPP.  He also has had 20 SOG and 10 Hits across that time span. Rangers are in the middle of a rebuild, so things could change quickly, but for now Hayes seems like a solid option to pick up.

Casey DeSmith, G – 35% owned

If you are looking for a goalie to pick up and Domingue has already been grabbed, I would take a flyer on DeSmith.  Murray, and the Penguins in general, have been struggling lately. Though, Casey only has 3 wins, this 2.25 GAA and .930 SV% on the season are not terrible stats.  If Murray continues to struggle, DeSmith could see more and more starts.
